Duration

12 Days

Nairobi

Best Time

1 April - 31 May

This signature journey takes you from Kenya’s dramatic northern wilds to the warm Indian Ocean shores—combining untamed safari with barefoot coastal luxury. Begin in Samburu’s sun-scorched valleys, where you’ll stay at Sasaab, a Moroccan-inspired luxury camp set above the Ewaso Nyiro River. Continue to Solio Lodge, the only lodge within a private rhino sanctuary nestled between Mount Kenya and the Aberdares. From there, descend into the savannahs of the Masai Mara for big cat encounters, before swapping boots for barefoot bliss at Kinondo Kwetu on Diani Beach. Your adventure ends with a night among giraffes and indulgence at the tranquil Giraffe Manor Retreat in Nairobi. This itinerary is ideal for couples, honeymooners, families, or friends seeking exclusive, curated experiences with expert logistics taken care of from start to finish.

Highlights

  • Visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial
  • Visiting Batwa Vocational Center
  • Guided birding and community walk

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you’ll be met and assisted through the airport before transferring to Wilson Airport for your one-hour scenic flight to the Samburu region. As the arid northern landscape unfolds beneath you, you’ll land at the Sasaab airstrip where your guide will transfer you to camp in time for a relaxed lunch.
Over the next two days, immerse yourself in Samburu’s unique ecosystem. Unlike the southern parks, Samburu is home to its own “Special Five”—Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and the graceful gerenuk. Game drives here feel raw and unfiltered, offering close, uncrowded encounters. In the afternoon, unwind by your private plunge pool or book a massage at the riverside spa.
You’ll have the chance to meet Samburu warriors, take a camel ride across the scrubland, or even sleep under the stars in a fly-camp set-up, a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those seeking something truly wild.

Yellow Fever and Health Precautions
Kenya requires a proof of Yellow Fever vaccination if you’re arriving from or transiting through a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission. Ensure you carry your Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. It’s also recommended to consult your healthcare provider about vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and other routine vaccines. Malaria prophylaxis is advisable, especially if you plan to visit rural areas or engage in outdoor activities. Insect repellent containing DEET is recommended to protect against mosquito bites. Comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses and potential evacuation is highly recommended.

Weather and Best Travel Times
Kenya generally experiences a warmer, tropical climate. The dry seasons, from June to October and December to February, are ideal for safaris and wildlife viewing. The wet seasons, from March to May and November, bring lush landscapes but may also include occasional rains. It’s advisable to pack lightweight, breathable clothing for daytime activities, along with layers for cooler mornings and evenings, during early morning game drives. Neutral-colored clothing is recommended for safaris to avoid attracting wildlife. Essential accessories include a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and sturdy walking shoes. A waterproof jacket is advisable during the wet seasons. Avoid bright colors and camouflage attire, as they can distract wildlife and may be restricted in some areas.

Power Supply
In Kenya, the power supply is 220-240V with a frequency of 50Hz. The plug types commonly used are Type G (UK-style). Bringing a universal travel adapter is essential for charging your devices. Power outages can occur occasionally, so packing a power bank is a wise precaution.

Currency and Payments
The currencies used are the Kenyan Shilling (KES) in Kenya. US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas, hotels, and for major transactions such as safaris. ATMs are available in most major cities and towns, but they may be scarce in remote areas. It’s a good idea to carry some local currency for smaller purchases or tips. Visa and MasterCard are the most widely accepted credit cards in Kenya. However, American Express (Amex) is generally not accepted, so it’s important to bring alternative cards. Cash is often preferred for smaller transactions, especially in rural regions where card payments may not be available.

Dining and Drinking Water
The local cuisines in Kenya are a delightful mix of African, international, oriental and Indian influences. Popular dishes include grilled meats, stews, rice, plantains, and ugali, a type of maize porridge. To ensure safety, it’s advisable to drink only bottled or filtered water, as tap water may not be safe for consumption. Most accommodations provide bottled water for guests.

Tipping
Tipping is customary for guides, drivers, and hotel staff, though it is not obligatory. Showing appreciation for good service is always welcomed. For your guide, it is recommended that you tip atleast US$ 10 – 20/person/day.

Safety
Kenya is generally safe for tourists, but it’s essential to stay informed about local conditions. Check the latest travel advisories from your country’s foreign affairs department before your trip. In case of emergencies, the emergency contact number is 999 in Kenya.

Cultural Etiquette
Respecting local traditions is important. When photographing locals, always ask for permission. While English is widely spoken in tourist areas, learning a few basic phrases in Swahili (Kenya) can enhance your travel experience.
